Maharanis Launches Hospital Appeal

Consultant Dr Tim Jones says the existing machine needs replacing

27 April 2017

JUST weeks after being awarded the British Empire Medal for his charity work, Maharanis' owner Farooq Mohammed has launched a major appeal in support of Peterborough City Hospital.

He and his staff at the Hampton restaurant have pledged to fund a critical piece of equipment for Amazon Children's Ward, a new state-of-the-art cardiac echo machine, at a cost of around £70,000. The mobile machine will also be used for out-patients and occasionally in the operating theatre.

"Our family has personal experience of Amazon Children's Ward where my youngest son was cared for some years ago after being born two months prematurely," explained Farooq. "Having supported various good causes over the past decade, we now invite our many friends and customers to help save children's lives through this new challenge, a project that will provide significant, substantial and sustainable benefit to the wider community."

Starting in May, fundraising will be primarily through a weekly charity dinner at the restaurant in Hampton Hargate where every Wednesday, proceeds from all meals and drinks (excluding takeaway) will be donated to the appeal. In addition, a Privilege Menu is available daily with all proceeds donated. Progress will be tracked using an Amazon ward jungle-themed wall chart... please pop into the restaurant and see it for yourself. It is fabulous!
